Silvana Armenulić

Bosnian folk singer, one of the most prominent folk, as well as traditional sevdalinka, singers in former Yugoslavia. Silvana was born in Doboj, Bosnia and Hercegovina on 18 February 1939 into a Muslim and ethnically Bosniak family.She was the older sister of singers [a1175490] and [a1773227]. She commenced singing professionally in 1959. After recording a single record for the label Diskos in Aleksandrovac, she was invited by the label PGP-RTB to record in the then-popular duet format where she recorded duet albums with singers Petar Tanasijević, Aleksandar Trandafilović, Slavko Perović and Dragan Živkovi. Silvana wanted to go solo and the opportunity to record as a soloist with the Zagreb-based record label Jugoton in 1969. She went on to have a string of sevdalinka hits and became known as the e "Queen of Sevdalinka". On 10 October 1976 both Silvana and her sister [a=Mirjana Bajraktarević] died in a car accident.
