Osvaldo Pugliese

Argentinian pianist, director, composer. (December 2, 1905 - July 25, 1995) In 1920 began performing piano is a number of cafés, performing with the likes of [a=Paquita Bernardo]. Then performed in the orchestras of: [a=Roberto Firpo] (circa 1925-26) - [a=Pedro Maffia] (1926), founding member - [a=Pedro Laurenz] (1934), founding member - [a=Miguel Caló] (1936) In addition, he directed or founded a number of ensembles that have no recorded material: In 1925 formed part of the [a=Enrique Pollet] sextet In 1929 formed with [a=Elvino Vardaro] the [b]Pugliese-Vardaro sextet[/b]. Disbanded 1931. In 1931 joins the [a=Alfredo Gobbi] sextet. In 1932 to 1934, and 1938, runs his own ensembles and performs in minor venues. By 11 August, 1939 he assembles the orchestra that would go on to record as [a=Osvaldo Pugliese Y Su Orquesta Típica] which he directed until he passed away. In the 50s he found himself censored and forbidden from performing due to political controversies.
