Rival Waves
Rival Waves is a rock band from Austin, Texas formed by singer/songwriter Joel De La Garza in 2016. The band, including drummer Paul Pinon, bassist Dave McLeod and guitarists Erik Salinas and Marc Schulz, brings big choruses and a relentlessly frenetic punk-rock intensity. Its unique aesthetic marries the musical snarl of The Police’s early years, the politically-charged and earnest lyricism of Pearl Jam and REM, and the distortion-soaked indie sensibilities of Best Coast and Cloud Nothings. By producing a loud, cathartically-intense sound, with topical lyrics left to the listener’s interpretation, the group strives to bridge the emotional connection between art and audience.
