Arnaud Rivière

Arnaud Rivière (b. 1974) is a French experimental electroacoustic musician, free improviser, instrument designer, sound installation artist, co-founder and director of [l=Sonic Protest Festival], and a member of [a=ONCEIM] ensemble. Currently based in Paris and active since the late 1990s, Rivière plays on DIY-electroacoustic device (built around a repaired turntable's pick-up), prepared mixer, and other primitive sound tools, performing solo, in groups, and with numerous improvisers. Throughout his career, Arnaud Rivière had been actively collaborating with [a=Alexandre Bellenger] and [a=Aaron Moore (2)] (from [a=Volcano The Bear]). They played and recorded together as [a=Textile Trio], and in numerous other combinations and line-ups, including an extended [a=Textile Orchestra] (with [a=Dan Warburton] on violin), and [a=Bobby Moo] trio (Rivière, Bellenger and noise maker Miho). Arnaud Rivière's music has been published on over fifteen CD, CD-R, 12"/10"/7" vinyl, and digital releases through [l= Beta-lactam Ring Records], [l=Textile Records], [l=Le Petit Mignon], [l=Galerie Pache], [l=Fragment (2)], [l144973], [l=Desetxea], [l=Disques Bloc Thyristors], [l=Intransitive Recordings], [l=Art Kill Art], [l=Les Potagers Natures] and other labels – including various compilations, split-singles, solo recordings, and collaborations with [a=Bayal] (a duo of [a=John Boyle] and [a=Aya Ohnishi] from [a=The Nihilist Spasm Band]), [a=Jean-Philippe Gross], [a=eRikm] + [a=Martin Tétreault] & [a=DJ Sniff], [a=Antoine Chessex], and [a=Balinese Beast]. Rivière had also performed live and improvised with such prominent international musicians, as [a=Roger Turner], [a=Otomo Yoshihide], [a=Anla Courtis], [a=Martin Ng], [a=Gert-Jan Prins], [a=Ignaz Schick], [a=Pascal Battus], [a=Sophie Agnel], [a=Jean-Noël Cognard], [a=Adam Bohman], [a=Joke Lanz], [a=Daniel Padden] and [a=Laurence Coleman] of [a=Volcano The Bear], [a=Mario Gabola], [a=Clayton Thomas], [a=Olivier Di Placido], and [a=Mat Pogo]. In addition to these instrumental works, Arnaud Rivière is also active as a sound installation artist. He created LA TURBOTHEQUE, an absurd jukebox that reads music vertically instead of the horizontally: all tracks on CD are played simultaneously, so the whole album is length-compressed to the size of the longest song. Arnaud contributed sound design to installations by [a=Pierre Ardouvin], [a=Guillaume Constantin] and other prominent French visual artists, and created several videos with [a= Jérôme Fino]. For over a decade, Arnaud Rivière has been organizing experimental music events in Paris area, and used to work as a booker for [l=Instants Chavirés].
