Wilton Felder

Jazz saxophonist - bassist - songwriter - producer. Born: August 31, 1940, Houston, Texas, USA. Died: September 27, 2015, Houston, Texas, USA. One of the most acclaimed jazz & soul musicians of the 1970s-1980s. He is best known as a founding member of The Jazz Crusaders, founded in the late 1950s while still in high school in Houston, and later shortened to [a=The Crusaders]. Felder was extremely busy as a west coast studio musician, playing saxophone and electric bass, on various soul, R&B, and rock albums with artists such as [a=Marvin Gaye], [a=John Cale], [a=Bobby Womack], [a=Randy Newman], [a=Jackson 5] & [a=Joni Mitchell]. He also had a modest solo output. Felder played a King Super 20 tenor sax with a metal 105/0 Berg Larsen mouthpiece. He also used Yamaha saxes. He played a Fender Precision bass, and also played Aria bass guitars.
