Katsura Mouri

Katsura Mouri is a Japanese experimental turntablist, a founding member of now defunct [a=BusRatch] collective, and a manager of [l=Parallax Records (2)] store in Kyoto. Exploring the use of unconventional and often non-musical objects and materials in conjunction with prepared records and effects, in the recent years she focused on the use of portable record players to perform without being bound to a flat tabletop surface, in a similar fashion to Christian Marclay’s ‘phonoguitar’ concerts in the mid-eighties. From 1998 to 2009, Katsura Mouri was a key member of BusRatch ensemble. They released several albums and live recordings on [l=PARA disc], including a collaborative [r=766181] CD with [a=Otomo Yoshihide], and had been actively performing across Japan. BusRatch also gave several concerts in Chicago, with a highlight of their US tour being a performance with [a=Toshio Kajiwara] and [a=Christian Marclay] at the [l=Museum Of Contemporary Art Chicago] in May 2001. After disbanding BusRatch in 2009, Mouri continued performing solo and soon went on a European tour with [a=eRikm], [a=Martin Tétreault], and [a=Ignaz Schick]. She also participated in Multiple Tap tours in February 2014 in UK, and in March 2015 in Mexico, presenting Japanese extreme music scene together with [a=Toshimaru Nakamura], [a=Pain Jerk], [a=Junko], [a=Tetuzi Akiyama], [a=Ken Ikeda], [a=Yumiko Tanaka], [a=Makoto Kawabata], [a=Hijokaidan] and other prominent artists. In October 2015, Katsura Mouri performed at [l=Instants Chavirés] in France and participated in [l=Luff Festival] in Switzerland. She released a debut full-length solo album [r=11151242] on Slowdown Records in 2017, edited from various sessions and sounds recorded between 2006 and 2014.
