Lobby Loyde

Born May 18, 1941; Longreach, Queensland, Australia. Died April 21, 2007; Box Hill, Melbourne, Australia (due to lung cancer). Revered Australian guitarist. Loyde first came to prominence under the pseudonym/alias Barry Lyde in the Brisbane rhythm and blues band [a=The Purple Hearts] in 1965. In January 1967, he left to join the second incarnation of the Melbourne band [a=The Wild Cherries], writing most on the band's four singles for the Festival label. The [a=Coloured Balls] played punk rock four years before punk emerged in the UK: heavily influenced by US bands, [a=MC5] and [a=Flamin' Groovies]. The band released their debut album, "[m=342177]" (1973). Prior to living in the UK, Loyde also released the album "[m=546473]" (instrumental) as well as writing a science-fiction novel (manuscript lost) and concept album "[r=3400490]" (2007). Back in Australia, Loyde also worked as a record producer with [a=Machinations], [a=Sunnyboys], The Red Crayons, [a=Tablewaiters], [a=Kevin Borich], [a=X (5)] and [a=Painters And Dockers].
