Hybrid

UK based electronica collective that were formed in 1995 by producers Mike Truman, Chris Healings, and Lee Mullin. Hybrid are known for their ever-evolving sound, blending the likes of Breakbeat, Progressive House, Trip Hop, Trance and Classical refrains. Throughout the 90's the trio enjoyed success as master remix artists, reworking the likes of BT, Filter, Moby and many more, before finding their own success with the 1999 single 'Finished Symphony'. This was soon followed by the debut album 'Wide Angle', which featured Julee Cruise providing vocals. The album was reissued as 'Wider Angle' a year later and included their cover of 'Kid' by The Pretenders (titled 'Kid 2000') with Chrissie Hynde recording new vocals for the track and tracks from a live session. The outfit's second album 'Morning Sci-Fi' saw the team add semi-permanent vocalists and guitarists Adam Taylor and Tim Hutton. The 2003 outing also includes guest musicians Peter Hook & Kirsty Hawkshaw and came with a bonus DVD that featured live footage as well as a documentary of their time supporting Moby on his 2000 tour. The following year Hybrid were approached by composer Harry Gregson-Williams to provide music for the movie 'Man On Fire'. This would become a long standing relationship with not only the songwriter but also in the movie industry, providing scores and music production for 'X-Men Origins: Wolverine', 'Total Recall' (2012), 'Fast Five' and more. Returning to a more symphonic sound, Hybrid released their 3rd album 'I Choose Noise' in 2006 and was Co-Produced by Gregson-Williams. It was in the Spring of 2007 while on tour promoting the album that vocalist Charlotte James became their new lead vocalist. In the same year record label Distinct'ive released 'Re_Mixed', a compilation showcasing remixes of Hybrid's back catalogue. 2008 saw the release of 'Soundsystem 01', a double-disc mix collection with the first CD being based around actual film scores fused with ambient electronica and the second containing more upfront, club-oriented music, represented by remixes of music by the likes of Sasha, Quivver and Elite Force. Later that same year Hybrid released a new single 'The Formula of Fear', which featured Charlotte James on the vocals. Their fourth album was finished the same year, but the team wasn't happy with its sound so decided to start from scratch. Finished in 2010, 'Disappear Here' was Hybrid's boldest album at that point, focusing on more vocal led songs - all of which by singer Charlotte - and garnered 5 singles as well as a special edition reissue featuring a collection of remixes & reworkings of songs from the original record. In 2012 the compilation 'Classics' was released, which was a greatest hits featuring the biggest hits from the group's career. In 2015 it was announced that founding member Chris Healings had departed the group, leaving the now husband and wife duo Mike & Charlotte Truman helming the project. In 2018 the band released their 5th record 'Light Of The Fearless', leading with the single 'Light Up'. It featured the City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and a cover of Tom Petty's 'I Won't Back Down'. In 2021 Hybrid released their 6th album 'Black Halo'. They also have a patreon where many rare songs are made available, as well as Hybrid's extensive remix back catalogue.
