DJ BABE, born Ronier Golightly in Pittsburgh, PA. in 1972 took an interest in music at an early age. In the 2nd grade DJ BABE took up guitar lessons displaying a talent that amazed adults with his knowledge of music & songwriting. DJ BABE began flirting with the hip-hop scene as early as 1982 beginning as a break dancer, where he could be found at many parties & skating rinks. After a chance meeting with various members of the hip hop movie “Rappin” in 1984, DJ BABE took a liking to the DJ side of the game. That Christmas DJ BABE received his 1st set of turntables that would lead him to the path he is on now. In 1990 DJ BABE graduated from Henry Ford High School & immediately enrolled in the Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts with an interest in being a radio DJ. As a Specs Howard he was trained in both radio & television production and he would apply these skills with various video production companies both on-air & behind the scenes. DJ BABE would also dabble into the music production side in 1995 providing tracks for artist Phil Da Phunk. It was around this time that DJ BABE & Cobb would start up the rap collective known as The Teamstaz. 1997 was the year that he would get into the mixtape scene releasing several top selling titles. DJ BABE would create a city wide buzz over the next 2 years with the release of two high selling CDs, “The 45 Speed Mix” & “Sex World – The Soundtrack”, released with an underground movie. In 1998 he would venture into the business side of the music industry as an intern with Arista records. This would last for 2 years during which time he would meet & establish himself with many industry insiders in the music game. The position at Arista would enable him to establish key relationships with radio & retailers in the city of Detroit. In 2000 DJ BABE would start as an on-air mixshow DJ with WJLB in Detroit. After traveling to several music industry conventions, he would meet the necessary people for the next phase of his career. In 2001 DJ BABE would jump into the syndicated mixshow game airing a program on WJMR in Clarksville, TN. Along with Faybah Entertainment, DJBABE starting doing “Industry Nights” parties in downtown Detroit where record labels & clothing companies could showcase their latest releases. This moved to Marilyn’s On Monroe in Detroit on a weekly basis. Other works include being named the on-air host of “Jam It Or Slam It”, a weekly video show broadcast on several cable stations throughout the metro Detroit area. DJ BABE has also been named as a member of the Tech.Nitions, a nationally known DJ crew that consist of some of the biggest names in radio throughout the U.S as well as The 1200 Squad and Emixshow. MCA Records hired DJ BABE in November 2001 as Field Merchandising Specialist in the retail department. 2002 saw the release of the mix CD “Godzilla 2K2”, “Superman 2K2”, a series of CDs called “The Music Lab” with various rap & R&B volumes and “The 7 Mile Album” which featured new music from Mobb Deep, Ms. Jade, Proof of D12 & others. “The 7 Mile Album II” hits stores in early 2003. DJBABE can claim to rocking crowds at just about every popular nightclub in the Detroit area and is the primary DJ for most industry events where he has spun records for Scarface, Cam’Ron, Ja Rule, Outkast and many others. With all of the experience and a major presence in the Detroit music scene, DJ BABE plans to take the world by storm in 2003 & beyond.
