Mario Canonge

A jazz pianist from Martinique (FWI). He played with [a=Ultramarine], [a=Kann'], [a=Sakiyo], [a=Dee Dee Bridgewater], [a=Ralph Thamar], [a=Manu Dibango]... Caribbean jazz w/ Sakesho ([a=Andy Narell], [a=Jean-Philippe Fanfant], [a=Michel Alibo]). Developing his own jazz vision with albums like Rhizome (w/ J. Schwarz-Bart, Roy Hargrove, [a=Richard Bona], [a=Gino Sitson], [a=Linley Marthe], [a=Chander Sardjoe]) Mario Canonge released Mitan, a jazz album acclaimed by critics, marking a turning point in his career. He then performed with Michel Zenino at the Jazz à Porquerolles festival, a concert captured on DVD. He collaborated with Cameron Pierre and Courtney Pine on their respective albums. In 2013, he was named Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres. At the same time, he formed the trio CAB with Blick Bassy and Adriano Tenorio DD. A regular at le Baiser Salé Jazz Club in Paris, he released the album Quint’Up in 2018, followed by Zouk Out, a fusion of jazz and zouk. In 2020, he released Kapital with Erik Pédurand. In 2023, he published Quint’Up II and a new trio album. His trio was recognized by Jazz Magazine and Jazz News at the end of the year.
