American jazz alto and tenor saxophonist, clarinetist and flutist, born 19 May 1947 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, died from a drug overdose 31 January 1978 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands while on tour with Blood, Sweat & Tears.
