Joseph Rogatchewsky

Ukrainian tenor (1891-1985). (His last name is sometimes spelled "Rogatchewski." In the pre-war years, Joseph Rogatchewsky was one of the most highly regarded of the French-trained tenors, noted as having less vibrato than the tenors with whom he shared a similar repertoire. He made his operatic début in Toulouse in 1922, and appearances at the Paris Opéra-Comique led to a contract with La Monnaie in Brussels, where he quickly became leading lyric tenor.
