Cäcilia Chmel

Classical cellist: Cäcilia Chmel, born in Bregenz, studied the violoncello at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Tobias Kühne, where she received a teaching qualification and soloist diploma with distinction. An exchange scholarship and a scholarship from the Federal Ministry for Science and Art enabled her to continue studying with Frans Helmerson at the renowned Edsberg Music Institute in Stockholm. After graduating there, she became a member of the Norrköping Symphony Orchestra. Since 1988, Cäcilia Chmel has been solo cellist with the Musikkollegium Winterthur and a member of the Winterthur String Quartet. In addition to orchestral and quartet work, she also plays chamber music in other ensembles and looks forward to solo performances with Heinrich Schiff and Pinchas Zukerman, among others. In Linz she has been solo cellist in the ensemble under Franz Welser-Möst for many years. Cäcilia Chmel plays an instrument by Francesco Ruggieri (Cremona 1673) owned by the Rychenberg Foundation.
