Luis "Perico" Ortiz

Luis "Perico" Ortiz (born December 26, 1949 in Santurce, Puerto Rico) is a trumpeter as well as a composer, arranger and producer. He is also the founder of Sunrise Productions, [l166801], Dialen Inc. Promotions, Dialen Publications and the [l=Dialen Recording Studios]. His professional career began in New York in 1970 where he worked as trumpeter, arranger, composer and producer for artists such as Tito Puente, Machito, Mongo Santamaría, Tito Rodriguez, Fania All Stars, Johnny Pacheco and José Mangual, among others. He also accompanied Ann-Margret, Dionne Warwick, Diahann Carroll, Trini Lopez, Engelbert Humperdinck, Sammy Davis, Jr., Tony Bennett and The Supremes. In the last few years Ortiz returned to his native city where has collaborated with various artists like Domingo Quiñones, Papo Lucca and Bobby Valentin. He continues to produce music and soundtracks. He is also a professor at the Music Conservatory of Puerto Rico where he teaches Jazz Performance and Caribbean Music.
