Rupert Mould

Born in Vancouver, Canada and educated in England, from a family of medics and explorers, the spicy ingredients of curiosity, environment, humanity and magic rooted early within him. Beach combing the Pacific shores, exploring traditional and evolving cultures, contesting history, searching for immense landscapes are a part of his poetic wonder. Featured here are the caravan lands of Anatolia, the spaciousness and softness of Andalucia, the Andean Cordillera, the Amazon jungle, as well as the many faces encountered en-route. All these landscapes are being altered by human and environmental action. He wrote, produced and performed 13 albums under the internationally known artist name of “[a1433]” for “[l109] Records”. In 2008, he released a pioneering album, using music to give Nature a voice, titled “[m1289271]” ([l46423]). He was awarded a PhD in Comparative Literature from Bristol University, England in 2013. In 2015, he won an award for his contribution to the "Planetary Boundaries" course at Stockholm University. He has published articles on Latin America's environments (Taylor & Francis), two prose novels on Cuba (Ninja Tune), and writes as an environmental journalist.
