Paul Clarvis

English drummer and percussionist who has played with many different bands and is involved with all musical genres, working with musicians ranging from [a=Leonard Bernstein], [a=Harrison Birtwistle] and [a=John Dankworth] to [a=Randy Crawford]. Paul has recorded albums with [a=Gordon Beck], [a=Bryan Ferry], [url=http://www.discogs.com/artist/John+Williams+(4)]John Williams[/url], [a=Sam Rivers], [a=Moondog], [a=John Adams], [a=Mark-Anthony Turnage], [a=Marc Ribot], [a=John Zorn], [a=Michel Legrand], [a=Elton John], [a=Richard Thompson], [url=http://www.discogs.com/artist/Orb%2C+The]The Orb[/url], [a=Henry Lowther] and [a=John Harle], along with [a=Mose Allison], [a=Randy Brecker] and [a=Ravi Shankar]. He has been the featured percussionist / drummer for most of the London Orchestras and is in great demand on film and recording sessions as a specialist hand drummer. He has travelled widely researching and studying music from other countries, releasing several albums, [i]Stay Cool[/i], [i]The Nightingale of a Thousand Joys[/i] and [i]A Young Person's Guide[/i] with his band [b]Orquestra Mahatma[/b] that improvises on folk music from around the world. [b]Orquestra Mahatma[/b] has appeared on the [i]BBC Jazz At The 606[/i] series, and his other band, [b]For All The Saints[/b], with [a=Tony Hymas] and [a=Stan Sulzmann] are a leading edge jazz improvisatory group playing world tunes and their own compositions. They work in the avant garde field where jazz meets contemporary classical. Paul is also a professor at the Royal Academy of Music, London and was asked to chair the panel for the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 1998.
