Dimitris Kalantzis was born in Athens in 1967. He studied piano and music theory at Atnens Conservatory and Athinaiko Odeio, graduating with piano and fugue diplama with distinction. In 1990 he started to study at the jazz department of Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music and graduated in 1994 with honors. He also received a scholarship to Berklee College of Music after an audition at Philippos Nakas Conservatory. He has taught at Pireaus Music School, Athenaeum Conservatory, Ionian University and Athens Conservatory. He has collaborated with numerous musicians from Greece as well as with internationally famous artists, such as Andy Sheppard, Alex Foster, Ralph Peterson Jr. and Rex Richardson. Since 1999 he is a member of the National Orchestra of Greek Music under the artistic direction of Stavros Xarhakos. His albums "Mano’s" and "Modes & Moods", are jazz tributes to Manos Hadjidakis and Mikis Theodorakis respectively.
