Gunter Hampel

German jazz composer, vibraphonist, flutist, bass clarinetist, and occasional saxophonist and pianist. Born: 31 August 1937 in Göttingen, Lower Saxony, Germany. Hampel was dedicated to free jazz in the 1960s, founding the [l30578] label. He worked with [a=John McLaughlin], [a=Muruga Booker], [a=Laurie Allan], [a=Udo Lindenberg], [a=Pierre Courbois], [a=Archie Shepp], [a=Marion Brown], [a=Steve McCall], and [a=Perry Robinson], et al. In the 1970s he formed the [a=Galaxie Dream Band], who also had core member, vocalist [a=Jeanne Lee]. Was married to jazz vocalist [a=Jeanne Lee], and their daughter is also a singer, [a=Cavana Lee Hampel] who he has worked with. Hampel and Lee also released an album named after their daughter, "[m=467469]" (1982).
