Hans Hellsten

Swedish organist, professor, head of department and rector, born on 13 September 1958 in Helsingborg. Since 1992 he has been professor of organ at the Academy of Music in Malmö, Lund University. He also conducts an extensive concert activity and has appeared in most European countries as well as in the USA and Canada. Between 1987 and 1991 he was active as a church musician in Burlöv's parish outside Malmö. His repertoire is extensive, with emphasis on the Latin Baroque, Johann Sebastian Bach and contemporary organ art, where especially the music of the Swedish candancer Bengt Hambræus plays a large role - among other things illustrated in the three volumes "The Organ Music of Bengt Hambræus". Other phonograms include "Gothic Dreams" - a portrait of the Genarps organ at Malmö museums - and "Penetrating the Organ" - music by Kent Olofsson, Hans Gefors and Peter Hansen. Both are published by db-productions. The next record will be a collaboration with pianist Hans Pålsson around Torsten Nilsson's music. In 1982, Hans Hellsten finished his four-year studies in France with a "Prix de Virtuosité" in Marie-Claire Alain's organ class at the conservatory in Rueil-Malmaison. Other organ teachers include Susan Landale, Nicholas Danby, Grethe Krogh, Jens E. Christensen and Montserrat Torrent. Hans Hellsten took his church music degrees at the Academy of Music in Malmö. In addition to teaching and playing the organ, Hans also devotes himself to helping congregations that need to acquire new instruments and participate in concert and festival production. In addition, he often and happily writes about music.
