Step Dads
Collaboration between Derek Lyn Plastic and former FaceHugger/Deerhunter member Paul Harper. All guitar parts and music were essentially written on a Peavey Predator guitar by Paul when he was a baby. The name Step Dads was thought up, and the imaginary band was started when Derek was smoking shitty dirt weed with Paul in Little 5 Points, Atlanta, Georgia, playboi. All Step Dads songs were recorded at Kris Sampson's apartment when he was out of town and Derek was crashing on his couch and wanted a screamier sound than his then current band. Paul was shit hammered drunk on Thai Mekhong rice rum while recording and doubling all of the heavily distorted electric guitar on any and all Step Dads recordings, to get that tone right. Lyrics were either a satirical collaboration between Derek and Paul, or some kind of sick joke by Derek acting alone. All releases were done through P-Trash records in like... Germany, or something... R.I.P. dude. This band never really existed, and will never release anything else, or play live. Derek essentially ended the collaboration with Harper by exhibiting extremely problematic and toxic behavior. I'm glad that some of you listened to us on MySpace. Hail Satan! Vaya Con Dios!
