DJ EFX

San Francisco-based EFX (Raul Recinos) began his career in the early 90s overseeing the decks at funk and hip-hop parties, also playing hi-NRG at gay clubs by night. His partner, Digit (b. Jeremy Cowan), took an active role in a succession of funk and ska bands, and was a DJ at Powerplant in Chicago when that city underwent its famous house revolution. After meeting at a record shop they steadily built a reputation with their releases, which kicked off on Strictly Rhythm with two records as Politix Of Dancing. These were followed with a solo EFX record, ‘Is It Like My Dil-Doe’, before they reunited as Killa Green Buds. They were gradually invited into the lucrative world of remixing often under the name Third Floor Productions. After a breakthrough rebuilding Rozalla’s ‘Everybody’s Free’, further big names followed, including Sting (‘Demolition Man’), Deep Forest (‘Sweet Lullaby’) and even Beavis And Butthead, the MTV cartoon characters. They also produced a welter of productions for the N-Fusion label, before that was succeeded by their own operation, Freshly Squeezed. Credited with being the harbingers of musical movements such as San Trancedisco or San Frandisko, their style remains relentlessly buoyant, happy house. Brother of [a=Erick Recinos (2)] aka [a=Mind Motion (2)].
