Meredith D'Ambrosio

US jazz pianist and vocalist, b. 1941. Born into a musically family D'Ambrosio studied both painting and music as young and by graduation was performing professionally. Earliest appearence counts singing in 1958 with [a=Roger Kellaway]. In 1966 she was offered to tour with John Coltrane - but turned him down - reportedly due to lack of confidence. It wasn't until a decade later, in 1978, she had her recording debut. Soft toned D'Ambrosio is mostly heard accompanying herself or with a small combo that suits her warm and understated interpretations of the classics, that follows in the tradition of e.g. [a=Blossom Dearie] and predates later pianists/singers like [a=Diana Krall]. Married jazz pianist, arranger [a=Eddie Higgins] in 1988.
