Keith Haring

American 'street culture' artist and social activist, born 4 May 1958 in Reading, Pennsylvania, USA and died 16 February 1990 in New York City, New York USA. His subway art, murals and iconographic imagery reflected the New York City street culture of the 1980s. A style that has become echoed in the 'tagging' graffiti prevalent in today's subversive 'ghetto' art - along with artists such as [a1117593]. Haring was diagnosed with AIDS in 1988. He established the "Keith Haring Foundation" in 1989, with a mandate to providing funding and imagery to AIDS organizations and children’s programs.
