Karin Stigmark

Karin Stigmark or Karine (in France) is a Swedish singer, lyricist and songwriter born March 2, 1945. She made her first recording in 1962 with Lars Samuelson and 'The Major Singers' (the vocal group that would later become 'Gals & Pals') on the single 'The Minstrel Boy'." In 1965 she went to France and was discovered by Alain Boublil and Christian Fechner. Performing as French singer ”Karine” she released several EP:s and singles and performed at ”Olympia” and appeared at several music festivals. After returning to Sweden in the late 60s she was part of the vocal ensemble in ”Spader Madame” by Hasse & Tage. She began her collaboration with Swedish top producer Anders ”Henkan” Henriksson. They released more music with Karin as a solo artist and started a recording company. Together they made several albums including Sommarfilosoferna, Svenne & Lotta, Baltik, Ablution, Janne ”Lucas” Persson, David Garriock, Peter Lundblad and more and even children’s music (Karin Stigmark med kompisar). Karin started the quartet AJAX - a Swedish vocal group consisting of Karin, Beverly Glenn, Peter Lundblad & Göran Wiklund. They were the Melodifestivalen (Swedish Eurovision Song Contest) backing singers in 1974 and the first to sing Waterloo in public - before ABBA. Karin performed backing vocals on many recordings as part of ”Superbirds” (Karin Stigmark, Lotta Hedlund & Beverly Glenn) between 1971-2001. As a composer and lyricist she’s had more than 50 songs recorded by various artists, some competing in the Swedish Eurovision Song Contest.
