Sandeeno

Reggae deejay and singer, Sandeeno was born in Birmingham, UK but raised in the Jamaican parish of Manchester. He first started out as a deejay under the name of Superman deejaying in combination with Jamaican deejay Spiderman. They recorded their debut album [r=2715508] in '84 for [a=Ranking Joe] and it was released on [l=Kingdom Records] in '85. It was recorded at Harry J's and Channel One in Jamaica. Sandeeno then moved to Kingston in order to be nearer the studios. During the coming years they recorded for various producers and released singles on labels such as [l=Jammy's Records], [l=Shocking Vibes], [l=Penthouse Records], [l=Steely & Clevie Records], [l=Mr. Doo], [l=Soljie] and others. In early 90s they met with [a=Charlie Morgan (2)] of [l=Outernational Records] and released the album [r=6256236] in '93 which was critically acclaimed. The duo then toured Europe (Switzerland, organized and accompanied by the then pioneering band for dancehall in Switzerland, The [a=Ganglords]). After the tour they agreed to dissolve the partnership and Superman changed his name to Sandeeno. He released his first solo record on the Black Roots imprint "Gangster". In '95 he moved into self-production with the single [r=3679092] showcasing him being able to both deejay and sing. Several singles followed for various producers. In '96 Sandeeno recorded [r=2935787] for [a=Mykey Simpson]'s [l=MCS Records]. The song was quite a hit and reached #1 on the english charts and stayed there for several months becoming somewhat of an anthem. Successful singles such as "Nah Go Down Deh" and "Mankind" followed. These and other singles were collected for the '98 album [r=3317580]. Since then he has recorded for producers such as [a=Gussie P.], [a=Blacker Dread] and [l=Fashion Records] among others. In 2008 Sandeeno released the album Guncrime Gone Crazy that was focused entirely on anti-gun and uplifting messages. † RIP
